It is an austenitic iron, nickel, chromium alloy with the composition of titanium and copper. This is also called as UNS N08825 alloy. It is designed to provide exceptional resistance to numerous corrosive environments to both reducing and oxidizing media. The high nickel content makes it highly resistive to chloride stress corrosion cracking. It is combined with copper and molybdenum content that provides substantially improved corrosion resistance when compared to conventional grades. This blend of resisting elements provides resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion cracking.
With the addition of titanium, the alloy is stabilized to sensitization. This makes resistance to intergranular corrosion attack after exposure in the high-temperature range. These flanges are resistive to various chemicals such as sulfuric acids, nitric acids, phosphoric acids, organic acids and alkalis such as potassium hydroxide and acidic chloride solutions.
These flanges are readily formable and weldable with all standard process. These alloys have good mechanical properties from cryogenic temperatures too low temperatures. These can be exposed to temperatures above 540 degrees C. This results in the change in microstructure that enhances the impact strength. Alloy 825 Flanges are utilized where creep rupture design properties are required. These flanges are strengthened by the cold working process. These flanges have good impact strength in room temperatures and retain good strength at elevated temperatures.
