CS Buttweld Fittings: Elbows, Tees, Reducers, Caps & Stub Ends
Dinesh Tube India is a supplier and stockist of carbon steel pipe fittings in Mumbai, serving EPC contractors, refineries, power plants, process plants and fabricators in India and abroad. We supply carbon steel buttweld fittings to ASTM A234 WPB for general and high-temperature piping, and to ASTM A420 WPL6 for low-temperature service.
Fittings are available seamless and welded from 1/2" to 48" NB, in schedules to match your pipe, made to ASME B16.9 with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate. Send us your fitting type, grade, size, schedule and quantity for a quote.
What Are Carbon Steel Pipe Fittings?
Carbon steel pipe fittings are the parts that change direction, branch, change size or close the end of a carbon steel pipeline: elbows, tees, reducers, caps, crosses and stub ends. In process and pressure piping, the standard type is the butt-weld fitting, which has bevelled ends and is welded directly to the pipe, giving a joint as strong as the pipe itself. Dimensions follow ASME B16.9, so fittings from different makers are interchangeable.
In India, carbon steel buttweld fittings are often called MS (mild steel) fittings, since mild steel is low-carbon steel. For pressure piping, always specify a material standard such as ASTM A234 WPB so the chemistry, strength and test certificate are guaranteed. Fittings are matched to the pipe grade: WPB with A106 Gr B pipe and WPL6 with A333 Gr 6 pipe.

Carbon Steel Pipe Fittings: FAQs
What are carbon steel pipe fittings?
Carbon steel pipe fittings are the elbows, tees, reducers, caps and stub ends used to change direction, branch, change size or close the end of a carbon steel pipeline. Butt-weld fittings are welded directly to the pipe and are made to ASME B16.9 dimensions. The most common material is ASTM A234 WPB; for low-temperature service, ASTM A420 WPL6 is used.
Are mild steel (MS) fittings the same as carbon steel fittings?
Mild steel is low-carbon steel, so in India "MS fittings" and "CS fittings" are often used for the same products. For process and pressure piping, buy fittings to a named standard such as ASTM A234 WPB with a mill test certificate, rather than unspecified MS fittings, so the material, strength and dimensions are guaranteed.
What is the difference between A234 WPB and A420 WPL6?
Both are carbon steel butt-weld fittings with the same minimum strength (415 MPa tensile, 240 MPa yield). A234 WPB is for moderate and elevated temperatures and is not impact tested as standard. A420 WPL6 is for low-temperature service and is Charpy impact tested at −46 °C, so it is used with A333 Gr 6 LTCS pipe.
What is the difference between a long radius and a short radius elbow?
A long radius (LR) elbow has a centreline radius of 1.5 times the nominal pipe size, so a 4 in. LR elbow has a 6 in. radius. A short radius (SR) elbow has a radius equal to the pipe size. LR elbows give lower pressure drop and are the default in process piping; SR elbows are used where space is tight.
What is the difference between seamless and welded buttweld fittings?
Seamless fittings are formed from seamless pipe and are common in smaller sizes, usually up to 24 in. Welded fittings are formed from plate and welded, and are used for larger sizes. Under A234, welded fittings are marked WPBW, and the welds are radiographed. Both meet the same pressure rating as matching seamless pipe of the same schedule.
What schedule should carbon steel fittings be?
Butt-weld fittings are ordered in the same schedule as the pipe they join, for example SCH 40 or SCH 80, so the bores and wall thicknesses match at the weld. Fittings are rated to the same pressure as straight seamless pipe of the same material and schedule under ASME B16.9.
