Seamless & Welded Zirconium 702 and 705 Tubes to ASTM B523
Dinesh Tube India supplies zirconium tubes from Mumbai to urea, acetic acid, pharmaceutical and fine-chemical plants, and to the heat-exchanger, condenser and reboiler makers who build equipment for them. We supply Zr 702 (UNS R60702), the standard corrosion grade, and the stronger Zr 705 (UNS R60705) as seamless and welded tubes to ASTM B523 / ASME SB523, and zirconium pipe to ASTM B658, with EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificates.
Zirconium is chosen where stainless steels and nickel alloys corrode too fast: hot hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid below about 70%, acetic, formic and nitric acids, and urea-carbamate solutions. Industrial Zr 702 and 705 are not nuclear Zircaloy. They contain up to 4.5% hafnium, which does not affect chemical corrosion resistance.

ASTM B523 covers tubes, ordered by outside diameter and wall thickness, mainly for heat exchangers. ASTM B658 covers seamless and welded pipe, ordered by nominal pipe size and schedule, for process piping. Tell us which standard your drawing calls for, because the size systems are different.

Which standard covers zirconium tubes?
ASTM B523 / B523M (ASME SB523) covers seamless and welded zirconium and zirconium alloy tubes. Zirconium pipe is covered by ASTM B658 / B658M (ASME SB658). The common grades are Zr 702 (R60702) and Zr 705 (R60705).
What is the difference between zirconium 702 and 705 tubes?
Zr 702 is commercially pure zirconium and the standard grade for corrosion service. Zr 705 contains 2–3% niobium, giving much higher strength (552 MPa tensile minimum versus 379 MPa), so it is used for higher-pressure duties. Zr 705 welds need stress relief after welding.
Do you supply zirconium pipes as well as tubes?
Yes. Tubes to ASTM B523 are ordered by OD and wall, mainly for heat exchangers. Pipe to ASTM B658 is ordered by nominal pipe size and schedule for process piping. Send your size list and we will quote to the correct standard.
Are zirconium tubes the same as Zircaloy tubes?
No. Industrial Zr 702 and 705 tubes contain up to 4.5% hafnium and are used for chemical corrosion service. Nuclear Zircaloy-2 and Zircaloy-4 cladding tubes are hafnium-free reactor alloys made to different specifications.
Why are zirconium tubes used in urea plants?
Zirconium resists the hot ammonium carbamate solutions in urea strippers and high-pressure condensers far better than urea-grade stainless steels, so zirconium stripper tubes give much longer life.
Where are zirconium tubes not suitable?
Zirconium is attacked by hydrofluoric acid and fluoride-bearing media, by hydrochloric acid containing ferric or cupric ions, by wet chlorine and by sulphuric acid above about 70%. Tantalum or titanium may suit those services better.
What is the price of zirconium tubes?

Which certificates come with zirconium tubes?
Every supply comes with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate showing heat number, chemical analysis, mechanical properties and test results to ASTM B523 or B658. EN 10204 3.2 certificates and third-party inspection can be arranged on request.
