Naval Brass (UNS C46400) Sheets & Plates to ASTM B171
Naval brass (UNS C46400) is a tin-bearing 60/40 brass with about 60% copper, 39% zinc and 0.75% tin. The tin addition improves resistance to seawater corrosion and dezincification compared with plain 60/40 brass.
Properties and Uses of Naval Brass Sheets & Plates
Naval brass offers high strength and hardness, good hot workability and good resistance to seawater, which suits it to condenser tube sheets and marine hardware.
Where not to use it: Naval brass is less resistant to dezincification than Admiralty brass in stagnant or hot water. For condenser tubes choose Admiralty brass or aluminium brass.
Testing, Documentation and Packaging
Every lot of Naval Brass sheets & plates is inspected before dispatch. Typical tests include chemical analysis / PMI, tensile and hardness testing, bend testing, ultrasonic testing of plates where required, and checks of thickness and flatness. Third-party inspection can be arranged on request.
Material is supplied with a mill test certificate to EN 10204 3.1, together with the raw-material report and inspection reports. For export orders it is interleaved with protective paper and packed on fumigated wooden pallets or in wooden cases, with a fumigation certificate included.
