Large-Diameter Corten B Pipes & Columns Rolled from ASTM A588 Plate
Dinesh Tube India supplies ASTM A588 Corten pipes and tubes from Mumbai to chimney and duct fabricators, bridge and structural contractors, architects and landscape designers. These are rolled and welded from ASTM A588 Grade A plate (Corten B), mainly in larger diameters and heavier walls than standard tube mills make, such as stacks, ducts, columns, bollards and architectural cylinders.
Important: ASTM A588 is a specification for plates, shapes and bars, not for tubes. An "A588 tube" is fabricated from A588 plate, and the mill certificate covers the plate. For standard-size structural round, square and rectangular tubes certified as tube, order ASTM A847. For all Corten tube grades, see Corten steel pipes and tubes.
What Is an ASTM A588 Tube?
ASTM A588 / A588M covers high-strength low-alloy structural steel with improved atmospheric corrosion resistance and a minimum yield of 345 MPa (50 ksi) up to 100 mm thickness. It is the standard US grade behind Corten B. When a drawing calls for "A588 pipe" or "A588 tube", it usually means a cylinder rolled from A588 plate and welded. This is the usual route for diameters and walls beyond the range of standard hollow sections, and for structures where tubes must weather to the same colour as A588 plate members.
Like all weathering steels, A588 forms a protective patina in the open air but is not stainless steel. It is not intended for pressure piping, marine immersion, buried service or chemical process duty.

How A588 Corten Pipes Are Made
- Plate: ASTM A588 Grade A plate with EN 10204 3.1 certificate, cut to developed length
- Rolling: plate rolled to the required diameter on plate-bending rolls (longitudinal seam); spiral forming for long continuous lengths
- Welding: seam welded with weathering-grade consumables so the weld weathers like the pipe
- Ends: plain or bevelled; flanges, base plates or caps as per drawing
- Inspection: dimensions, ovality and weld inspection to the agreed drawing or code
